Twelve-year-old military dog Lucca is awarded the highest war medal for her service with the US marine corps.

The German Shepherd has been honoured with the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) Dickin medal in London – the equivalent to the Victoria Cross – after completing 400 missions over the course of six years, keeping troops safe by sniffing out munitions. During a patrol in Afghanistan in 2012, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonation cost Lucca her leg, but not her spirit.

A true achievement for Lucca, a wonderful dog and companion.
